چکیده

We present an integrated two-step approach, which combines feedback and feedforward control, to compensate for the effects of hysteresis, creep, and vibration in piezoactuators. In this approach, the control of hysteresis and creep is decoupled from the control of vibrational dynamics. First, high-gain feedback control is used to minimize positioning error caused by hysteresis and creep. Second, an inversionbased feedforward approach, which can achieve exact tracking for general output trajectories, is used to compensate for error due to vibration at high scan rates. The feedforward approach is applicable to minimum (collocated sensor and actuator) and nonminimum phase (noncollocated sensor and actuator) positioning systems. The decoupling of hysteresis and creep control from vibration control simplifies the inversion-based approach, and the use of feedback provides robustness. We show significant improvement in positioning precision and scanning rate, and illustrate our results with an experimental piezoactuator scanner that is used in Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) applications.

Creep, Hysteresis, and Vibration Compensation for Piezoactuators: Atomic Force Microscopy Application

This article studies ultra-high-precision positioning with piezoactuators and illustrates the results with an example Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) application. Loss of positioning precision in piezoactuators occurs (1) due to hysteresis during long range applications, (2) due to creep effects when positioning is needed over extended periods of time, and (3) due to induced vibrations during h...

Advanced Control of Atomic Force Microscope for Faster Image Scanning

In atomic force microscopy (AFM), the dynamics and nonlinearities of its nanopositioning stage are major sources of image distortion, especially when imaging at high scanning speed. This chapter discusses the design and experimental implementation of an observer-based model predictive control (OMPC) scheme which aims to compensate for the effects of creep, hysteresis, cross-coupling, and vibrat...

High-speed tracking control of piezoelectric actuators using an ellipse-based hysteresis model.

In this paper, an ellipse-based mathematic model is developed to characterize the rate-dependent hysteresis in piezoelectric actuators. Based on the proposed model, an expanded input space is constructed to describe the multivalued hysteresis function H[u](t) by a multiple input single output (MISO) mapping Gamma:R(2)-->R. Subsequently, the inverse MISO mapping Gamma(-1)(H[u](t),H[u](t);u(t)) i...

Control Method of Giant Magnetostrictive Precise Actuator Based on the Preisach Hysteresis Theory

Aiming to the effect of hysteresis characteristics of giant magnetostrictive materials on the giant magnetostrictive actuator, the actuator’s model is divided into four separate segments. Then, based on the Preisach theory, a model which can describe hysteresis characteristics for the actuator is established. Based on this, feedforward is combined with feedback, and a PID closed-loop feedback c...

Time Delay and Data Dropout Compensation in Networked Control Systems Using Extended Kalman Filter

In networked control systems, time delay and data dropout can degrade the performance of the control system and even destabilize the system. In the present paper, the Extended Kalman filter is employed to compensate the effects of time delay and data dropout in feedforward and feedback paths of networked control systems. In the proposed method, the extended Kalman filter is used as an observer ...
